Clean Water
Bafut Community Borehole
A solar-powered borehole now serves over 1,200 residents with safe drinking water, cutting waterborne disease and freeing hours once spent fetching water.
What we invested in
Working with the village development committee, KEMMA funded the drilling of a 90-metre borehole, a solar pumping system, a 5,000-litre storage tank and four public tap stands positioned near the school and the market.
The impact
- 1,200+ residents with clean water within 5 minutes of home
- Reported cases of typhoid and diarrhoea down sharply at the local health post
- Girls attending school instead of walking hours to the stream
The borehole changed everything. Our girls no longer walk hours for water — they spend that time learning.
A local water committee, trained by KEMMA, now manages maintenance through a small household contribution so the system sustains itself.
